I must say, I'm not really happy with this photo. The door looks really strange and distorded to me. The mood and subject were really nice I think but I couldn't give them what they needed. What's fun (not really in fact) is I don't even know what would have been better. I'd like to know something. How can I have less distortion? Is it the quality of the lens? Is it linked to the focal used? thank you all.
BRrrrr... ça fait froid dans le dos!!! on se croirait dans un jeu vidéo, à l'intérieur il y a le gros méchant et le gros trésor!!! (je fais vraiment des commentaires à la con, moi!)

not the quality of the lens. in fact, i'd say you exposed this very well. the problem is that there isn't anything 'happening'. Though, what does that mean? your pic from 2 days ago was stellar and nothing was 'happening' there. somehow i just want to see a person in this one.

I think it isn't distorted at all, I mean not from your lens. But the lines aren't square, and that can have many causes: the place you were standing in relation to the gate, the location of the gate in the gateway, the squareness of the construction... I've been bothered by this kind of thing in my own work from time to time. Sometimes I correct them in Photoshop using the Transform tool. If the subject is strong enough, sometimes it doesn't matter. This subject isn't that strong for me here though and I agree that it's kind of irritating.

p.s. I think black and white might work better here to emphasise the tones of light and the mood.

i wouldn't really have noticed the distortion if you hadn't mentioned it but i think it may be just a result of the slightly unparallel lines of the smaller gate behind. at first glance there seems to be only one gate, but there are two, and the lines of the one behind are running at different angles. what struck me about the image was how it seemed quite factual, if that's the right word? the point of view is quite head-on, perhaps a move to the side or higher up/lower down might bring out some more of the mood. enjoying your posts!

c'est justement le côté étrange de la porte qui fait le charme de la photo. j'aime
